Hi there, I’m Maddy Shine and I’m a coach with 11 years’ experience teaching small businesses about SEO and marketing. I am delighted to be a resident expert as part of the Wedding Venue Members’ Club and I’m here to tell you how your wedding venue blog can get you seen by more couples who want to book.

Now, I get it. You’re busy running your wedding venue. Blogging seems to take an age so it naturally gets pushed to the bottom of your To Do list, along with much of the rest of your marketing. But as we approach engagement season, you need to be ready. There is more competition than ever, and you want to be on page one of Google whether it’s for your gorgeous barn wedding venue or your country house or your city hotel.

There’s room for you all to be seen, I promise! But it doesn’t happen by magic. So let’s get into the five steps to help you.

STEP ONE: Recognise there are LOTS of page ones of Google, not just one.

What do I mean? Well, there are loads of different ways to describe your type of venue and you have the opportunity to rise to page one of Google for any and all of them. For example, if you’re an outdoor wedding venue in Devon, you could aim to get to page one of Google for phrases such as:

Outdoor wedding venue

Outdoor wedding Devon

Wedding venue Devon

Woodland wedding venue Devon

The list goes on…

There are tools to measure the popularity of these keywords including Keywords Everywhere but brainstorming them all first is the key. Don’t put your eggs all in one basket. Mix the phrases up when you’re writing about your wedding venue.

STEP TWO: You need to be blogging.

You need to be sharing those real weddings that you’ve been busy organising and hosting all year. You don’t have to feature them all, but you do need to be writing about them. When I work with venues, they often question me on this - does anyone actually read them? Let me tell you what I tell them. If people didn’t want to read more about real weddings, then wedding magazines and wedding blogs wouldn’t exist. Couples devour information and inspiration. They want to dive in and you are sitting on a gold mind. They want to know how to use your venue, how to decorate your venue, who to hire supplier wise, and what might be possible. They want to know they can trust you and fall in love with you before they get to the showround stage. One venue client of mine now has a 100% conversion from showround to booking because of her blog. This is perfectly possible for you too.

STEP THREE: You need to be sharing those blogs far and wide.

The client I mentioned in step three has set up an automated email sequence where she sends blogs she’s written to potential enquirers and so they can get to know the venue and what’s possible before coming to a showround. You need to be sharing those blogs on rotation on your social media platforms not just once, but monitoring their popularity using Google Analytics and checking to see what works. If they’re getting lots of clicks, share them again. If they’re not, look to see what you can do to make it more clickable and then share again. Have a constant rotation of older blogs that you can share + share + share.

STEP FOUR: You can use your blog to repurpose into social media content

Not just that, but you can repurpose them into email newsletters, Reels, carousel posts on Instagram, Facebook posts and Pinterest posts. I highly recommend using Canva to help you with the graphics side if, like me, you have no Photoshop skills. Canva Premium has all sorts of templates you can use and it’s very easy to import your own branding fonts + colours too. For captions, you don’t ever need to be stuck because you can use extracts from your blog as the captions, stick on a call to action to tell people what they need to do to get in touch and schedule those posts in. I suggest doing this in batches once a week so you don’t have to stress about it in the middle of everything else.

STEP FIVE: You need to learn more about sharing your knowledge and experience in your blogs

It’s not just real weddings that need to go on your blog. It’s your knowledge, experience and expertise that also needs to be shared. But how to do that in a way that is easy for you to share and clickable enough to be interesting so that you can continue to bring in traffic and bookings? That’s where you can come and learn from me! I teach a 12 week Blogging for Gold program which opens on Thursday 28th September.
